Yesterday, I stopped by Skyline Studios to check out the Softwear by Microsoft graphic t-shirt collection hosted by Common. Music was provided by DJ Biz Markie and Jeremy Piven bka Ari from hit tv shoe Entourage came thru to show support.

The t-shirt designs, inspired by the 1980s when both Microsoft and hip-hop really came of age, include iconography that depicts shared principles of the technology company and the hip-hop star: including connecting people and creativity to help enable human potential. The tees will be available for approximately $32 in late December at specialty retailers nationwide including Union (NYC) Leaders, 1354 (Chicago), Wish (Atlanta), and Major (Washington DC).

Earlier in the year you’ve seen a preview picture of UK-based creative icon Carri Mundane of Cassette Playa rockin’ a pair of the Nike x Cassette Playa Blazer Supreme, now check out the detailed look of the kicks! The Cassette Playa Blazer was first created for Carri’s Spring/Summer 2008 “Future Primitive” runway show, a show that was inspired by Carri’s concept of “urban shamanism.” As Carri explains it, “urban shamanism” a way of thinking that is summarized in her unique style for the season – “Ancient Amazonian hunting rituals adapted by a gang of skaters in a post apocalyptic city”.

Nike’s classic Blazer instantly became a pioneer in footwear when it was released in 1973. Taking its name from the Portland Trail Blazers; as Nike’s first hoop shoe, it proved worthy of its name. At the time, The Nike Blazer was a welcome departure from its more clunky counterparts. The Blazer’s simple design soon became de rigueur on and off the court and in recent times has been embraced by other cultures, including skaters – a point not lost in Carri’s creative process. “The Blazer’s adoption within the skate community made this the perfect shoe for the project. The colours reference the faded neon’s of eighties skate culture. For the materials imagine the shoes came from a toxically mutated lizard = sci-fi pimp.”

Carri was inspired by Nike’s minimalistic design approach, keeping the Blazer’s striking elongated swoosh centered on the shoe. “We’ve left only a circle and triangle for the wearer to decode”

The Cassette Playa Blazer will be available at the Nike Sportswear 1948 store at Bateman’s Row, Shoreditch and select Nike Sportswear retailers. For NYC, the release is taking place on Saturday, December 20th at Nike Sportswear at 21 Mercer Street. Stay tuned for more details to follow!

The How Many Pullover and The Afrika Leggings

You’ve first seen M.I.A.’s new clothing line on her website now the collection has arrived at Karmaloop. The collection reflects her own personal eclectic style, featuring bomber jackets, leggings and bodysuits, the debut collection screams loud and clear with bright bold hues and graphic prints. M.I.A. prefers to keep the brand underground, hoping to produce a rich and avant-garde aesthetic that allows her biggest fans to emulate her signature style. Therefore naturally, hints of her up-and-coming brand reached her devotees by way of a head-spinning video entitled “Real Pirates of the Caribbean”. The video features a young, florescent blonde-haired boy, Okley Leslie, who models and flaunts pieces from the collection that can be found on the singer’s website and Karmaloop.com.

WWD has the first look at Louis Vuitton’s new ad campaign featuring Madonna that was rumored and confirmed last month. The ad campaign is a take on the Parisian theme of Marc Jacobs‘ spring LV collection, with a setting in a smokey French bistro and the sepia-toned images evoking a Brassai atmosphere which results in six atmospheric pictures of Madonna shot by Steven Meisel that will be featured in magazines in February. “The campaign marks the end of Vuitton’s six-year collaboration with photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, with the parting characterized as amicable, and another reunion for long-time collaborators Madonna and Meisel. Jacobs last worked with Meisel in his Perry Ellis days.” Madonna is sure showing off her fit self, looking good so far but kinda reminds me of a music video she did in the past haha. I can’t wait to see the rest of the campaign! Your thoughts?
