I just bought Neuville (large) from the Samsara collection and love the design! It is made of PVC (which totally concerns me) but it is waterproof and the design and style is totally top notch. As for the construction and hardware- my bag seems sturdy and looks to be built to last but I guess time will tell.

I agree with Jessica and a couple of others on this one. Matt and Nat used to make beautiful, high quality bags, but now their prices are inflated and their products cheap. I have one bag of theirs that has lasted, but only because it has a snap close and not a zipper. Their zippers are notorious for breaking, and the stitching is no longer high quality either. Plus, honestly I don’t like any of their new designs, especially the Japanese Paper collection. Samsara is much more true to their old design aesthetic, but I can’t justify the price on those either so I can’t testify as to their quality.

Yep, Canadians have been buying them for years — I’ve bought more than a few since 2002. Unleas they have improved the quality, I don’t think they’re worth a price tag over $100 — most of mine are looking pretty beat up in one way or another — material unraveled or ripping. And that’s with minimal use.

Matt & Nat makes its bags from PVC. From the website http://www.tubex.com “PVC creates environmental problems throughout its life cycle. PVC releases a cocktail of toxic chemicals that will somehow, at some stage in the process and in some form or another, end up back in the environment”
These bags are also made in China. Their price is over-inflated to stuff the owner’s pockets.

I too have noticed the big price increase
Glad to see they will have a lower priced line. BTW, I almost always see Matt and Nat at TJ Maxx and Marshall’s.

Matt & Nat bags have gone from 40-140$ to 90-300$ in the last few year. I used to be a Matt and Nat fan but I no longer think its a good idea to spend that amount of money on something with this type of quality. For any true fans of Matt & Nat, they’ve recently come out with a lesser priced brand called Samsara which is just their old design with a Samsara logo instead of Matt & Nat.

Oooh I see they have new styles up! Thanks for the tip, I dig their ethical practices, but their designs don’t always do it for me… these look more promising!
