Organized by the Hong Kong Museum of Art and in collaboration with the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau, “Louis Vuitton: A Passion for Creation” poises to be one of the star attractions of the 17th French May Arts Festival. This exhibition showcases Louis Vuitton’s long history and association with the world of art, as well as its passion in working with different artists in various ways. The Louis Vuitton : A Passion for Creation Exhibition is composed of three parts, each of which deals with different aspects of the House’s activities and projects in the artistic domain. Exhibiting artists include Jean-Michel Basquiat, Paul Chan, Cao-Fei, Yang Fudong, Gilbert & Georde, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Andreas Gursky, Pierre Huyghe, Jeff Koons, Bertrand Lavier, Christian Marclay and Richard Prince as well as other newly discovered international artists. The first part, entitled “Louis Vuitton and Art” and curated by Herve Mikaeloff, will be dedicated to the brand’s heritage (exceptional pieces of luggage from the Louis Vuitton Museum in Asnieres) and to fruitfill collaborations of Marc Jacobs with contemporary artists, such as Stephen Sprouse, Takashi Murakami and Richard Prince. The second will focus on the Fondation Louis Vuitton pour la Creation. The first section entitled “The Architectural Project” will show the model designed by Frank Gehry. The second section, “The Collection, A Choice”, curated by Suzanne Page with Beatrice Parent with the collaboration of Laurence Bosse, will show a selection of artworks of the Fondation’s collection, while the third section, curated by Phil Tinari, will give an insight of the local art scene with works of Hong Kong young artists. The exhibition is a homage to the creativity, vitality and modernity of the city of Hong Kong and is open to public from May 22nd to August 9th 2009.
