T-Mobile BlackBerry Bold 9780 – Review

T-Mobile BlackBerry Bold 9780 – Review

Thursday, December 30, 2010 by Wendy Lam

What better day to take pictures of my BlackBerry than on a blizzard lol. I’m sure by now you all know that I’m a BlackBerry addict, whenever there’s a new BlackBerry I try to upgrade! Last month I received the new BlackBerry Bold 9780 from T-Mobile to use and I’m loving it! The looks of the phone is not much different from the Bold 9700 but if you compare the two, you’ll see that the Bold 9780 is blacked out (no more chrome on the sides) which I like a lot better. Lots of great improvements including more memory, a better camera and it runs on the BlackBerry 6 platform.

The new interface of your favorite features is a good and bad thing for me, good because everything you need is front and center but with my quick fingers sometimes I scroll too fast and it may cause some delays in getting to where I want to be. But I do love the universal search, I can find emails and icons a lot quicker without browsing through the entire phone.

The new and improved Bold 9780 is built on the BlackBerry 6 platform which is a lot faster than the old one and has tabbed browsing so you don’t need to close out your windows to view another page. The only thing that bothers me in the browser is the zoom in, it zooms in way too close up so so most of the time I’ll have to zoom out manually. Another great thing is you can scroll over a picture on the browser and you can save the image or send it out to your friends via email, BBM or text, that also goes for page links you won’t need to click into the link to get the page link before sending out.

As a blogger, the camera is the most important upgrade on the phone since I’m always snapping up pictures. The Bold 9780 has a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash, digital zoom and video recording with scene modes (auto, face detection, portrait, sports, landscape, party, close-up, snow, beach, night and text options). Unlike the previous versions, the camera is super fast, so fast that you’ll need to get used to it at first use. After a snap, it will take less than 5 seconds to take another photo or you can scroll to the left and preview your picture and send it out. Very important especially when I’m at at fashion show or when I spot a celebrity on the street and I need to snap pictures quick, the camera on this phone has not failed me yet! The photos are crisp and clear, really good, a lot of times I just use my phone to snap photos at events (you can see lots of pics here) instead of using my Leica. The camera options are also made easier to change, everything is on the main camera screen so you can choose to use flash or not, choose your scene modes and zoom in/out. Easy and fast.

That’s pretty much what I have to say about the Bold 9780, I’m not going to get all techy on you guys but if you want to learn more click here.
