Louis Vuitton x Stephen Sprouse SoHo Storefront Installation

Like I mentioned yesterday, to commence the release of the Louis Vuitton x Stephen Sprouse Tribute 2009 Collection, the Louis Vuitton boutique at “SoHo’s Greene Street will be transformed into a Sprouse destination in time for the collection’s arrival. HOTNESS! The company is wrapping the store in vinyl and spray painting neon graffiti all over the facade. The window display will feature a 6-foot neon light installation in Sprouse’s Rose motif. The store’s interior, enhanced with black brick wall facing, will also be sprayed with the neon graffiti. Vuitton will honor the late artist with three events this Thursday. The night will kick off with cocktails at the Vuitton boutique on Greene Street, with a simultaneous event at nearby Deitch Projects’ Wooster Street Gallery for the opening of the “Rock on Mars” Sprouse retrospective. Afterwards, Vuitton and Jacobs will host a bash at the Bowery Ballroom, featuring a performance by Sprouse’s friend Debbie Harry, followed by DJ Jus Ske. The venue is expected to have a Sprouse feel, with a special graffiti-and-neon decor.” Once again, the collection release this Thursday, January 8, 2009 at the SoHo boutique. via Hypebeast / 12ozProphet

From Friday, January 9, 2009 to Saturday, February 28, 2009, Deitch Projects will be hosting Rock on Mars, a retrospective exhibition of the work of Stephen Sprouse which will transform Deitch Projects’s 18 Wooster Street gallery into a realization of Sprouse’s rock and roll futuristic vision. Don’t miss out on it!

Chanel Cancels Mobile Art Tour

p1120443.jpg

WWD reports that Chanel cancels Mobile Art tour due to the poor economy right now, “considering the current economic crisis, we decided it was best to stop the project,” said a Chanel spokeswoman. “We will be concentrating on strategic growth investments.” Its sad but reality, plans have been scraped to take the exhibit to London, Moscow and Paris. So glad I was able to check out the exhibition when the pavilion landed in New York, I was super sad when I missed the one in Hong Kong when I was visiting at the same time. Perhaps when the economy gets better it may come back? Let’s just hope…

Kehinde Wiley To Launch Clothing Line

kehindeclothes1.jpg

New York based painter Kehinde Wiley is venturing out into a new line of clothing in collaboration with designer Dapo Jamiu-Soyoye which was inspired by his paintings for men and women at the end of this year. According to SuperTouch, Wiley is known for his “highly detailed floral motifs as backgrounds for his intricate portraits is legendary.”

“In Nigeria I bought these amazing fabrics from open-air markets. I brought them back, photographed and sourced them for painting, then wondered what to do with them. I ended up working with the designer DAPO JAMIU-SOYOYE. You know that Michelin Man-style puffy coats? We made a series of those out of the fabrics and are going to sell them in a pop up store in New York in December ‘08 or January ‘09.”

The jackets are looking pretty dope, I like the women’s one a lot and the white faux fur (?) on the hood is so cute. I’m going to keep my eyes peeled for more on this collection!

Sonia Rykiel Exhibition in Paris

rykiel3.jpg

Sonia Rykiel’s exhibition at Les Arts Décoratifs in Paris will be open Wednesday through April 19, 2009 celebrating her 40 years in fashion featuring some 200 outfits. “The exhibit is organized by theme and not chronologically because many of Rykiel’s leitmotifs — lace, stripes, rhinestones, black, etc. — have remained constant throughout her career, said Saillard. Visitors enter the show via a black rotunda where Rykiel’s recorded voice reads some of her pronouncements on style. From there, display cases are dedicated to knitwear, printed dresses, velour jogging suits, marabou coats and slouchy pantsuits — all Rykiel signatures. Each window juxtaposes a piece from early in her career with a more recent one elaborating on the same theme. The second half of the exhibit upstairs includes several windows devoted to large-scale pictures of Rykiel-wearing models by photographer Dominique Issermann.” via WWD

Definitely worthwhile to check out Sonia Rykiel’s exhibition if you’re in Paris, I wish there was one in NYC!
