Hello Kitty Art Show at Three Apples ExhibitionColin Christian

It’s Hello Kitty’s 35th Anniversary and SANRIO is celebrating in a big way, collaborating with 80 popular artists to celebrate. In addition to launching a variety of special, limited edition products, SANRIO will introduce Three Apples, a multi-dimensional exhibition and celebration of all things Hello Kitty running from October 23 to November 15 at Royal/T in Culver City, CA. Royal/T is the visually stunning and playful, 10,000 square foot Japanese-inspired art exhibition space, retail store and “cosplay” maid café, located within the city’s vibrant arts community.

Three Apples, named as a nod to Hello Kitty’s weight as listed in her official bio – features an unprecedented lineup of over 80 celebrated artists, who’ve been invited to interpret their creative vision of Hello Kitty in unique, original works that will be on display and for sale. The art exhibition at Three Apples will be curated by Jamie Rivadeneira, owner of JapanLA, a Los Angeles boutique that specializes in “cute” Japanese and American products. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the artwork will benefit L.A. Works, a volunteer action center that creates and implements hands-on community service projects throughout the greater Los Angeles area.

Some of the featured artists include: Amada Visell, Colin Christian, Buff Monster, Frank Kozik, Friends With You (FWY), Gary Baseman, Huck Gee, Luke Chueh, Natalia Fabia, Ron English, Simone Legno and Tara McPherson.

This is the first time that SANRIO has produced an event for the Hello Kitty fans in North America. The exhibition as well as all events will be open to the public, free of charge and will offer something for all Hello Kitty fans, no matter their age. Limited edition prints of selected artwork will released at special events during Three Apples.

Heineken Red Star Soul Tour in NYC | Estelle, Ludacris & NAS

In its fourth year Heineken Red Star Soul continues to deliver on its foundation of “Music, Recognition and Respect” by showcasing the best talents in hip-hop and R&B. Taking place in 9 cities across the county, this past Friday the Heineken Red Star Soul returns to NYC where hip-hop all started with a private concert at Gotham Hall. The invite-only crowd drank unlimited Heinekens and enjoyed musical performances by Estelle, Wale, Ludacris along with special guest NAS. Guests that were in attendance include Q-TIP, Charlie Murphy, Consequence, Mario Lopez, Tyson Beckford, Adrienne Bailon and most surprisingly Emmy Rossum (lol). The performances were popping, everyone got super excited when Ludacris brought out NAS, but as usual NAS never remembers his lyrics lol. I got some video footage for Ludacris and NAS, peep them below and enjoy!

Timberland x Wyclef Earthkeepers Yéle Haiti Collection + Launch Event

Timberland have teamed up with Wyclef Jean to created a collection of boots to promote the importance of preserving and protecting the environment with a focus on reforestation in Haiti. The Earthkeepers Yéle Haiti Collection, a 16-boot footwear collection devised by Timberland and Wyclef Jean, is slated to launch late November. For every pair sold, $2 will be donated to Wyclef’s Yéle Haiti Foundation to support reforestation in Haiti. The collection of eco-conscious footwear, made from recycled and organic materials, will be available globally for men, women and kids. In addition to the boots, “Tree” tee shirts designed by Haitian art students from the FOSAJ Art School in Jacmel, Haiti will be sold in Timberland stores and on timberland.com. For each tee shirt sold, $1 will go to the Yéle Haiti Foundation to support reforestation and art programs in Haiti. Last night was the launch event, where Wyclef gave an amazing 1 hour concert to an intimate crowd. The boots are nice, I like!

Wyclef is one of six Earthkeeper Heroes within the company’s 2009 Earthkeepers program, which aims to catalyze a movement of environmental and social activists. A first for both Wyclef Jean and Timberland, this innovative partnership will fuse music, product, digital and social media, service events and concerts to motivate and inspire consumers to take action in protecting the environment. This new alliance is grounded in a shared commitment to the environment and a passion for improving communities throughout the world.

Shoe Woo is a new shopping destination where multi-shoe brands are all under one roof: Nine West, Rachel Rachel Roy, Enzo Angiolini, Circa Joan & David, AK Anne Klein, Sam & Libby, Boutique 9, Bandolino and Joan & David. The store has two levels and is fun and filled with lots of shoes, like Shoe Woo says, “you’ll feel like a kid in a candy store”. The store is designed to look like an attic within a house, with antique furniture and unfinished walls, the window display is super cute too. The store officially opens to the public today Thursday, October 1st, at the corner of 59th and Lexington Avenue (where the old Nine West used to be, 750 Lexington Ave). Happy shopping!

A special offer for nitro:licious readers only, Shoe Woo is offering 15% off any purchase of $65 or more from October 1, 2009 to October 31, 2009. Just mention “nitrolicious” when checking out at the counter to redeem this offer, if you have any questions see store associate for details. Enjoy!
