DDC LAB Store Opening Party

p1120525.jpg

Last Thursday, November 6th was the DDC LAB store opening party at Mercer Street. The party started at 7pm and when I got there around 7:45pm it was at capacity already. Luckily, I knew the door people (thanks Sarah)- getting through and entering the party was not any better. The place was super packed, to a point where you weren’t able walk or check out anything. There was barely any room to breathe, so I wasn’t able to walk around and check out the space and goods. It was a really crazy, my whole back was soaked in just 10 mins as with everyone else in there. But the DDC LAB employees were all rockin’ some ill reflective gear from dresses to jackets to caps to fans marked with “NO PAPARAZZI” across it- super hotness. My favorite is definitely the New Balance 420 x DDCLAB - The Reflective 420, so crazy! It was one of those times where I couldn’t stay long and take pics, even with the jacket off it was wayyyy too hot and crowded in there…

KAWS Exhibition @ Gering & Lopez Gallery - Opening Reception

p1120462.jpg
Ed and KAWS

Last night was the opening reception of KAWS‘ exhibition at the Gering & López Gallery in NYC. I rolled in with my boy Edison to check out the exhibition featuring some of KAWS’ most recent works. Some art include large scale painting in acrylic, sculptures and the latest project of 33 painted bronze sculptures of KAWS’ own head in actual size. Friends, art collectors and taste makers gathered to celebrate with KAWS and we all had an early glimpse of his amazing works. The KAWS x SpongeBob paintings are bananas, especially the black paintings. I’m a huge fan of KAWS’ art, all the pieces featured at the exhibition were amazing. If only I had the room to showcase it all…

Be sure to check out KAWS’ exhibition at Gering & López Gallery in NYC if you’re in town- definitely worth going.

Playboy Fragrances for Men Launch Event

p1120187.jpg
The Girls Next Door: Kendra, Bridget, Me and Holly

Last Thursday, October 30th was the big launch event for the new Playboy fragrances for men by Coty at The Hotel Rivington Penthouse. Christie Hefner (Chairman and CEO of Playboy), Bernd Beetz (CEO of Coty Inc.) and Steve Mormoris (SVP Global Marketing Coty Beauty) were there to celebrate the launch along with special guests- The Girls Next Door, Holly Madison, Bridget Marquardt and Kendra Wilkinson. I was invited to attend the event and press conference to learn about the fragrances. The media got a chance to watch the behind the scenes from the commercials and also watched the actual commercials- they’re very seductive and alluring, I really like them.

The new Playboy fragrances for men “capture the essence of four sophisticated and contemporary city lifestyles: Hollywood Playboy, Malibu Playboy, Miami Playboy and Vegas Playboy”, their motto is “press to play”. Vincent Kuczinski, John Gamba, Dirk Braun and Jack Agran created Hollywood, Malibu, Miami and Vegas, respectively. The bottles resemble flasks, wrapped in a sleek black band with a see-through Playboy logo allows a peek at Bunny silhouettes through the fragrances on the back of the bottles. Each of the fragrances can be recognized by color: silver for Hollywood; blue for Malibu, orange for Miami; and red for Vegas.

After the press conference, the event opened up to Playmates, celebs, trendsetters and invited guests to enjoy cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and party. Throughout the party guests were welcomed to try and smell the new fragrances with Playboy bunnies assisting, I smelled all four and Vegas Playboy is my favorite. I’ve also asked Bernd Beetz which is his favorite and he said, “Miami Playboy”. The guy who wears Playboy fragrance is “successful, stylish and charismatic with the luxury lifestyle and tech toys to match.” I quite like men fragrances, they’re usually not as strong as the women fragrances. Guests left with a gift bag consisting of all four fragrances along with a box with a pair of Playboy boxer shorts, cigar, cufflinks and playing cards. The party was really fab, it made me feel a bit like I was at the Playboy Mansion (just a little haha)- definitely enjoyed my time there. Perhaps the future party can take place at the Playboy Mansion? I wish haha…

Tuesday, October 28, 2008

The Nike Considered Design launch event took place on Tuesday, October 28th at 7 World Trade Center where Nike’s CEO Mark Parker, other senior level executives and designers were on hand for a special preview of the Considered Design. It was an eye opener to witness the unveiling of the latest Nike Considered collection and to learn more about Nike’s commitment to design innovation and the efforts to reduce waste, eliminate toxic substances and lessen our ecological footprint. Everyone is talking about going green, I’m so glad one of my favorite brands is taking the initiative to making the world a better place.

The Nike Considered Design, which will combine sustainability principles with the newest innovations for sport. For Spring 2009 Nike Considered Design will be featured in all six of Nike key categories including ACG, tennis, running, soccer, women’s training, men’s training, sportswear and basketball. Nike’s best selling running shoe, the Pegasus, celebrating its 25th anniversary, is the first pinnacle running shoe to be Nike Considered Design.

Teen Vogue “Haute Spot” Pop-Up Store

30adco650.jpg

Teen Vogue is taking their magazine to the next level, during the holiday season from November 28th through December 26th they’re set to open a pop-up store called Haute Spot in the Mall at Short Hills in New Jersey. The store will not be selling any merchandise, instead its a chill spot for “girls to relax, try on clothes and drink smoothies — all while marketers woo them.” In March and April, the publication will open two stores to promote prom wear and in August two more locations featuring back-to-school gear.

The stores will offer free snacks, informal modeling, a perfume bar, a makeup station, charging stations for cellphones and iPods, a gift-wrapping counter and racks of clothes. Stylists and attendants at the store will advise visitors on lipstick, shoes and outfits. And, to the delight of retailers, they will whisk visitors to stores in the mall where they can buy the products.

Smart move, Teen Vogue’s target is to sell more ad pages so “they not charge most advertisers to participate in the store. Instead, it was offered as a perk to some top advertisers, while some were asked to buy an extra page or two in the December/January issue of Teen Vogue.” Quite interesting, I may take a trip up to Jersey to check it out when time comes. via NYT / Racked

american-fashion-accessories-book-1.jpg

The executive Fashion Director of Style.com, Candy Pratts Price, launched a new book with Assouline called American Fashion Accessories ($31.50). Being at that position, I’m sure she knows a whole lot about accessories and lucky for us she’s releasing the book. The coffee table book will showcase a wide variety of CFDA accessories designers in a beautiful way with over 250 illustrations and contents ranging from innovation, work, hollywood, pop and future. nitro:licious got a sneak peek inside the book, it’s pretty interesting. The book is currently available at Amazon.com.

The forward-thinking American accessory designer, in collusion with America’s royalty the Hollywood star and in sync with the unstoppable dominance of a rebellious popular culture, has assembled a cabinet of curiosities, including everything from Adrian’s witty Hollywood hats to Ralph Lauren’s all-American accoutrement to Madonna s rubber bracelets. It is a tradition that continues today with a stellar group of CFDA designers whose work exemplifies the American accessory.
