Chanel Mobile Art Landed in New York!

When I was in Hong Kong I missed out on the Chanel Mobile Art Exhibition that Zaha Hadid designed and was pretty sad about it but the New York exhibition will make up for it! The Chanel Mobile Art pavilion has landed in Central Park’s Rumsey Playfield, “which houses 18 modern artists’ odes to the iconic Chanel 2.55 handbag, will open to the public on Monday.” As you can see the crew is still assembling the 700 part for Monday’s opening, the exhibition will depart on November 9th and online tickets are already booked up. For a chance to see the exhibition visit the on-site ticketing box office for limited same day ticketing (subject to availability). “The entire project was conceived as a celebratory event for the 50th anniversary of Coco Chanel’s quilted 2.55 handbag, launched in February 1955. Once inside the space, visitors meander through specially commissioned installations loosely inspired by the 2.55. Yoko Ono, Blue Noses, Sylvie Fleury and Lee Bul are among the 18 artists whose works are on display.”

“A torus is basically like a spiral,” she said of the exhibition’s home, which looks not unlike a grounded UFO. “You start where you begin, you begin where you end and move from one space to another. It sounds light, like you’re just going to float it around and land it somewhere, but it’s very complicated.”

Aside from the exhibition, there will be “four limited edition 2.55s — red patent, ivory and navy alligator, and a jumbo-size navy patent style, all signed by Lagerfeld — will be available at the firm’s 57th Street and SoHo stores. The bags are priced up to $31,500, while the exhibition is free, although apparently no less a limited edition.” via WWD

I can’t wait, did you guys book your tickets yet? I did!

Christian Dior Inspired China Exhibition

(R) A 2003 couture look by John Galliano that belonged to the Duchess of Windsor…

On November 15th, for two months in Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing there will be a Christian Dior inspired exhibition which will “feature more than 20 specially commissioned works — many of them large scale — alongside some of the Dior originals that inspired them, from archival dresses by the founding couturier and John Galliano to fine jewelry by Victoire de Castellane, men’s wear by Kris Van Assche, perfumes and accessories.” The 32,000 feet “Christian Dior and Chinese Artists” exhibition will include “video works, photography, paintings, sculptures and a gardenlike installation, interspersed with dresses, sketches and photos from the Dior archive, with an accent on dresses by Christian Dior himself and Galliano, couturier since 1997. Works include a 23-foot-high Lady Dior bag made of a lattice of fluorescent tubes by Li Song Song, a giant portrait of Galliano by Zhang Dali composed of Dali’s pseudonym AK-47 and a re-creation of the couture atelier in white porcelain by Liu Jianhua. A Who’s Who of China’s red-hot art scene will be represented, including Zhang Xiaogang and Wang Du.” Definitely worth a trip to visit if you’re in Beijing next month. via WWD

Banksy’s NYC Installation ‘The Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill’

British street artist Banksy has landed in NYC, this past Wednesday over at 89 Seventh Avenue South he has unveiled his first official exhibition in NYC as “a mock pet supply shop, filled with animatronic creatures like a rhesus monkey and would-be creatures like fish sticks swimming in a tank.” The pet store named “The Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill” will be open to the public daily through Halloween, October 31st- I’ll definitely be visiting soon. If I haven’t read about the news, I would of probably be tricked into the pet shop thinking I was going to pick up stuff for my babies as the sign in front of the store reads “Open for Pet Supplies/Rare Breeds/Mechanically retrieved meat” haha. Entrance is free so make sure you swing by to check out the installation, just by looking at the pictures you know it’ll be interesting!
