Seems like a long time since I’ve seen the first trailer of the Rise of the Planet of the Apes but it was just two months ago. Finally, the movie opens in theatres today, August 5th! The movie stars James Franco, Freida Pinto and the film’s lead Caesar the chimp (Andy Serkis). I’ve been anticipating watching the movie since June but due to work I won’t be able to watch the movie until next week. Looks so good right?
Last month I posted two videos that showed that the apes are getting smarter, as I mentioned before these videos were developed early in the film making process of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. And remember I tweeted about a 5-year-old ape outsmarting a human college student in a number game? Well if you want to test your skills and see if you’re smarter than an ape, a new iPhone app just launched to test your intelligence in which players can take the same memory test to compare their skills with another primate. The number game app will also work on an iPad which is what I used to download the app, if you don’t have both you can play online as well. Think you’re smarter than an ape? Take the test to find out. I’ve also included two videos below: Can’t wait till the movie releases!
Remember my tweets and post about the Rise 50 summit I attended in Los Angeles for the upcoming movie, Rise of the Planet of the Apes? To show that the Apes are getting smarter, these videos were developed early in the film making process of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. 20th Century Fox hired a research team to build a collection of clips that would serve as inspiration for Director Rupert Wyatt, the apes in the film were made 100% digitally so it was crucial for Rupert and WETA Digital to understand all the ways in which apes move and behave. But after seeing the found footage, it surprised them with how smart apes really are. I kinda had an idea that apes are quite smart and similar to us humans but had no idea they were that smart. In one of the clips I’ve seen on my trip, a 5-year-old ape outsmart a college student in a number game (OMG!). Kinda sad but funny at the same time. In this post you’ll see two video clips that are pretty incredible: In accordance to FTC Guidelines, I am disclosing that I have been compensated by 20th Century Fox as a part of the “Rise 50.” However, all editorial content has been created by me and reflects my personal opinions.
This is the last of my LA posts from the first week of June (previous posts here and here), before my flight back to NYC I had time for a quick lunch so met up with Jasmine and Lanie. They took me to Curry House in the Little Tokyo Plaza, I love Japanese curry and that spot was pretty yummy. So many good restaurants in that plaza, I definitely will go back again to try other spots. Please excuse my airport attire, I packed lightly and ran out of clothes to wear for the trip and I wanted to be comfortable for my 6 hour flight. I know excuses right lol. Earlier this month I’ve posted about my first day in LA for the Rise 50 Summit that I attended, here’s a recap of my second day. 20th Century Fox invited me to LA to visit the 20th Century Fox studios for the Rise 50 Summit for the upcoming Rise of the Planet of the Apes movie starring James Franco, Freida Pinto and Caesar (Ape). The one day summit was full of surprises and I got to learn in depth about the new movie which I’m looking forward to watching. Speakers included Fox Filmed Entertainment CEO Tim Rothman, director Rupert Wyatt, producer and former CEO of Fox Entertainment Group Peter Chernins, Academy Award Winner WETA visual effects supervisor Joe Letteri, Chief Marketing Officer of Fox Oren Aviv and President of Mekanism Jason Harris. Unlike all the Ape films that released prior to this, thanks to the technology developed for Avatar, Caesar was in fact all digitally made by WETA. Andy Serkis, known for his role as Gollum in Lord of the Rings, did the back end of Caesar in a gray spandex suit with motion-capture markers and dots all over his face to capture facial expressions, we got to watch the behind-the-scenes and was blown away. I got all geeked out when Joe Letteri talked about the movie, he was the visual effects supervisor for this upcoming movie and also Avatar, King Kong, Lord of the Rings, X-Men: The Last Stand, Misson: Impossible, and the list goes on. He said there are different departments that specialized solely on hair, nails, eyes, etc, every part is done separately, unbelievable! The emotions that Caesar portrays gives me goosebumps every time I watch the trailer, you know the “look to the right” shot! I give mad props because Caesar looks sooooo real, in my eyes I thought it was a real Ape! BRAVO! Besides listening to speakers, I also got a mini tour of Fox Studios but due to time constraint it was a short one. Toured the big lot that was used for a lot of movies and TV shows like The Simpsons, Modern Family, Lie To Me, Bones, etc. There were also lots of sculpted trees in forms of Bart Simpson, elephants, horses, castles and all types of other animals, all in which are done by one person! Definitely looking forward to watching this movie which releases on August 5th! After all the fun at Fox Studios we were escorted back to the W Hollywood Hotel and to my surprise spotted Ice T decked out in white, turns out he was renewing his vows there with his wife Coco…and of course it was for their new reality show haha. Dinner was hosted at the Hollywood Terrace at the hotel, the view was pretty nice and the weather was near perfect. Then party time at Drai’s, they got us cabanas for the night, pretty hot! I’m currently on a flight back to NYC from LA, I went there for a quick trip for the Rise of The Planet of the Apes influencer summit. I agreed to join the festivities since I’m a fan of Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes (2001) movie starring Mark Walberg. Does anyone remember that movie or the original three movies? I personally never saw the original ones but everyone raves about it, I’m definitely going to check it out soon. After I got off my Virgin America flight, I was picked up to head to the W Hollywood Hotel. Pretty nice hotel but I found it a bit noisy, not from the bar or Drai’s but the other guests. Doors needs to be a bit more soundproof and housekeepers needs to more gentle and quiet instead of slamming the doors and talking mad loud in the hallway. After settling down at the hotel it was time for dinner at Cleo, met the rest of the “Rise 50″ bloggers and vloggers and also the execs. The ambiance was pretty nice at The Library, where we took over the entire space, but the food was average (IMO). And it just so happens that a movie was being filmed there, the actress looked very familiar but I just couldn’t figure out her name and no one from the group knew neither haha! Oh wells! After dinner, we headed to 20th Century Fox for a private screening of X-Men: First Class. We watched the movie at Fox Little Theater and before the movie I didn’t expect much but after watching it I can say it was pretty good and better than I expected. And for those that follow me on Twitter, probably know that I currently have a girl crush on January Jones! JJ was super hot as Emma Frost (see for yourself) in the movie, ILL body and when she turns into diamonds…DAMN! Did anyone watch the movie? Thoughts? I’ll talk more about the Rise of The Planet of the Apes starring James Franco, Freida Pinto and Caesar (Ape) in my next post but check out the trailer on page 3… Outfit #1: Tracy Feith for Target Leather Moto Jacket, Star Top (bought in HK), American Apparel Jersey Legging, Havaianas x Missoni Espadrille (courtesy of Havaianas), Chanel Jumbo Caviar Bag, Prada Baroque Minimal Sunglasses (courtesy of Luxottica), Jeremy Scott x Longchamp Pliage Bag, LeSportsac x Stella McCartney Carry-On Luggage (courtesy of LeSportsac) In accordance to FTC Guidelines, I am disclosing that I have been compensated by 20th Century Fox as a part of the “Rise 50.” However, all editorial content has been created by me and reflects my personal opinions. |
