Back in October 2008 I reported that Balenciaga has signed a deal with Coty Inc. to create, develop and distribute a series of fragrance lines under the Balenciaga name. Embracing the realm of dreams, Balenciaga introduces new fragrance, Balenciaga Paris. The talented perfumer, Olivier Polge, expertly created a fragrance with a delicate mystery that makes a mark and haunts the memory. After 12 years, Nicolas Ghesquiere felt it was the right time to introduce Balenciaga Paris, a lovely paradox telling an unprecedented story. Contained in blown glass, the bottle is pure without a trace or adornments. Featuring angles, curves and humor, the bottle boasts Balenciaga style. Balenciaga Paris helps to find the first moments of April, floral breezes and blossoms from milder days. Immediately, the demure violet note is pleasant as sunshine, but then a pepper note reveals itself and swells over calm, mossy wood. Charlotte Gainsbourg, the image of Balenciaga Paris, embodies French elegance: an incomparable alchemy between chic and impertinence. As Nicolas Ghesquiere explains, “Charlotte doesn’t define herself. This fragrance is just like her.” Balenciaga Paris is available at fine retail stores nationwide, including Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus, available in two sizes: Balenciaga Paris Eau De Parfum, 1.7 oz., $95 and Balenciaga Paris Eau De Parfum, 2.5 oz., $130. Check out the video of Nicolas Ghesquiere talking about the fragrance here.

For those that check my retrogurl blog you’ve already seen the sequin vest from Fafi’s adidas Originals spring/summer 2010 collection. Fafi put up more pics from the collection and I’m loving the leather jacket (pictured) and suitcase! Hopefully I’ll be able to get my hands on those two items, the collection should be hitting adidas Originals stores starting this month.
Benetton just launched the “IT’S MY TIME” global casting competition today, in search of new faces for their United Colors of Benetton’s Fall/Winter 2010 advertising campaign. They’re looking for something different, something unconventional, something surprising. To enter, create your online look-book with photos and videos that express your personality. If the website users vote you into the top 100, you win 200 euro in Benetton vouchers and will be featured in a book about global style. An expert jury panel will select the top 20 who will fly to New York to model in the fashion shoot for the Benetton Fall/Winter 2010 campaign. Winners will be announced March 18th, good luck. I’m a fan of Robert Indiana’s iconic “LOVE” motif, he is one of the original pioneers of the pop art movement and is recognized around the world as a great symbol of optimism. The definition of optimistic rebellion, Indiana’s artwork broke boundaries and changed the face of the art world, while injecting informal humor, irony and pop culture references along the way. Iconic itself, the Chuck Taylor All Star shoe has long been worn by artists who are driven to realize their vision and in the process change popular culture. This collection is dedicated to those folks who chose to follow their own path and create symbols of optimism and hope. The collection is inspired by a few of the original color iterations of Robert Indiana’s iconic “LOVE” artwork. I “LOVE” the collection, available at www.converse.com for $55.
