The time has come for me to take action and stop being a lazy blob at home, I need to get ready for my hun, Carla’s wedding next year so that means I need to drop some weight. I’ve heard many good things about yoga and I’m about to give it a try, does anyone here do yoga? If yes, anyone can recommend good ones in NYC? My bro told me to try Bikram Yoga (hot Yoga) and that sounds quite interesting. Still debating…

On the other hand, I was introduced by my gurl Trish in HK, S Factor. Sheila Kelley’s S Factor Class is inspired by yoga, Pilates, sensual movement, striptease and pole dancing. I’m not planning to be a stripper nor do I have the quality to but she said its really good…I’m thinking about this as well, there’s a studio in Chelsea…

What do you guys think? I’m leaning towards yoga a bit more, but I’ll see what you guys have to say first…

Yah babe… as you can tell I am SOO depressed from the weight I gain from quitting smoking… gosh… I don’t want to be a FAT BRIDE =( Anyways, I do Yoga too… Yoga is good for your body and you can keep on doing yoga till you’re old! but it tends to burn your fat slower than you do any cardio. I have a friend that goes to Bikram Yoga in LA too but if you have short breaths or problems with breathing then you reconsider to do something else. It is really hot I heard. As for S factor, I so want to go sigh.. to bad no one in LA will go with me. I super duper want to join S factor. So, therefore, I vote for S factor haha

PS. I am doing cardio 5 times per week now.. running on the treadmill at home… and play Wii too =X ops.. yeah Wii makes me sweat a lot coz I am really running back and forth, oh yea boxing sweat the most haha Anyways, I hope I can burn all the fat by October…! I gotta take wedding pics.. wish me luck and wish you luck my maid of honor =P

Bikram Yoga… i do it .. theres four gyms in nyc … u can go to their website…… in the beginning its hard but its really worth it…. but if you are trying to lose weight you need to do cardio…… bikram is good because u r sweating and streaching ….. you should do both the class are 20 dollars a class … but they have special deals …..try it!

I’ve hearded that many ppl are against Bikram – they say that level of the hotness could be even dangerous for some ppl ( not only for those with heart problems , even for youngs ) . On the other hand i’ve never tried that so i don’t know …. I did pilates many months but wasn’t really taken by the results ( i was expecting more tonned and slimest body ) . Now i want try astanga Yoga – something more intensiv but still about streching , i can’t do any of “real” workout coz then my body is bulky ( Rambo kind ) – i am quite slim but naturally i have very strong ( many mussles ) body . So no hard trening for me ;/

i think doing yoga in tandem with cardio would definitely help you drop some pounds.

weightlifting! seriously–I know it sounds silly but if you do light weights and do it right, you will lose far more weight and exercise a lot less. Get a personal trainer to go over the basics with you and make a routine and you’ll only have to go to the gym three times a week for 30 minutes. You won’t get muscular–just toned, and you will lose a lot more fat and faster.

I personally HATE bikram. You get all sweaty and slippery, it’s just unpleasant.

i think cardio will drop it the quickest.
what abour renting a bike in central park? i hear they close off a lot of lanes for bikers. i m thinking about doing that some weekend.

thanks for all the feedback guys, i think i’m gonna give YOGA a try first…then move on to something else if that doesn’t work out haha…muahs!

  • Lexie from LA says:

Sisters, let’s do it for ourselves! I need motivation… I tried Bikram, Hatha Yoga, Power Yoga, Pilates, and even paid over a thousand dollars for a personal trainer. With a trainer, and the help of a friend I shed over 30 pounds in 4 months. Since then, I’ve gained all the weight back and then some… Truth is- it’s simple. Keep busy. I worked out TWICE a DAY! But exercise is the only healthy way to do it.
To answer your question- do what you love. If you like dancing, and working out to music, try S Factor. If you suffer from stress and anxiety, do yoga. I found the best yoga for me was Power Yoga. In LA, Brian Kest’s Power Yoga was absolutely amazing and inspiring. I’m sure there’s a Power Yoga in NY.
Anyway, both Yoga and S-Factor are different forms of exercise that keep you on a schedule and when combined with a healthy meal plan, you can do it.
I have to remember to live by the Nike slogan and: “Just Do It”. Best of luck to you all..

Weightlifting turns your body into a total fat burning machine and contrary to popular belief you’re not going to get ripped. It is actually really hard for women to get ripped.

Also with cardio, make sure you do high intensity stuff.

Take some classes at Broadway Dance Center. I recommend Chio (hip hop)…she’s really encouraging and open to beginners. Plus, you learn some hot moves for the clubs in the process.

I take S-Factor. I’ve been taking it for over a year now and am a level 5. I can say this it really does work tone and increase your strength, but not only that it will make you change how you see yourself and will bring up your self confidence. If you’re looking for something on a fast pace this isn’t the program for you. It’s really about building strenght and the way you feel along the way. Each session is last 8 weeks. My suggestion is take an intro class it’s only $40 and that may help you make a decision.

If you’re looking for something to work effectively in a matter of weeks. Definitely kickboxing. It’s cardio and toning all in one.
