Ouch, what I just read in the new issue of the H&M magazine has surely made me annoyed. The “dashed-off copy, blurry digital photos and zero knowledge” is what makes blogs interesting and different from print magazine, if readers were looking for professional shot pictures and excellent copy they would purchase a copy of Vogue. I a bit disappointed at H&M and they should feel ashamed for what they said about blogs, we don’t make up for all their sales but we give them FREE exposure and I’m sure we make up a good percentage of their sales. I’m on the same page as StyleBytes, I blog about H&M without any incentives and never thought of receiving anything in return. H&M is my obsession and as conceited as I may sound I think with my blog has given a great deal of FREE advertising and a good amount of sales to H&M. How do you guys feel about this? 23 Responses to “H&M Disses Blogs!”![]() COMMENTS PAGE:![]() |

i totally agree that you def give them exposure without incentives…u def make me wanna buy a lot of things that are from h&m that our on ure site…
not to totally disagree with u but i honestly dont think that this is describing you…u are essentially the answer to the question at the end of this description, u do raise the bar for many…u seriously do have fashion knowledge and u dont display “blurry digital photos”..u show ure fans whats real, whats hot..not some played out shyt u kno?
so they def arent talking about u…u do have knowledge in everything u discuss or else u wouldnt say it in the first place..so dont worry about it i swear…u do not fall under this category
ashley ~ thanks, you are too cute! h&m may not target directly at me (or may be they are, who knows) but by what they said they kinda are talking about all the blogs out there. sigh!
ha! dont stress yourself girl, they’r haters!
keep doing ya thang
WOW… yeah you dont directly adverstise for H&M but you definitely give so many people the incentive to go to the store and check things out and purchase items!! as well as do many other blogs!
H&M should be ashamed of themselves for saying such a thing. First of all, their website totally sucks because they do not even allow their customers to e-shop. Second, they have like 3 pictures of the same shirt/dress/pants. C’mon, it is not like they are shown in different views. So what is the point of that? How smart is their marketing department? Extremely stupid!!!
I totally do not see what H&M is whining about. They should be more than happy that they have a big fan here entering their stores nearly every day and coming out with bags of merchandise. Also, free advertisement. Yes, maybe H&M is making enough money to advertise themselves. But your (nitrolicious’) page shows more of what H&M carries than their own site.
The writer and editor of the H&M magazine needs to get a life~!!!
I’m with you too girl… Tons of fashion bloggers out there are with you as well… articles like that drives people away. Fashion is all about fun. Blogs are all about freedom of speech. Blurry pictures = real life pictures.
I can’t believe that H&M would diss blogs when people like you give it so much more exposure — free! Your H&M posts are some of my favorite, and literally once after seeing one of your H&M posts, I ran out to the store and bought something. Just keep up what you’re doing!
wow!!! how dare they diss blogs! u are so right about giving them free advertisement! and i know that when i see something i like on ur blog i run out and get it especially from h&m because i usually wouldnt go in that store on my own! so yeah u make up alot if there sales and they are dead wrong!
That sounds really spiteful. Nevertheless, don’t get to affected by it.
These fashion companies should be grateful that there are blogs around to promote their items. At times, I always feel that people tend to take things for granted.
Wow…You give a lot of creditbilty to H&M, if it wasn’t for your blog, I don’t think I would be shopping at H&M for my girlfriend. You might have to do what Jay-Z did to Crystal.
GURL ur absolutley right…ig uess the higer-ups at H&M jus got up-tight bout the hwole thing or sutin cuz how can u go wrong wit FREE EXPOSURE! n trust meee…u do make a big percentage of their sales C’MON lolz.. we all do…they TRIPPIN
i still wanna see ur H&M posts so…
I agree with everyone’s comments above. Retrogurl, I think your photographs are absolutely wonderful and not blurry!!
Why don’t the H & M Marketing department consider setting up exclusive online access to yourself and other bloggers so they can distrubute exclusive ‘glossy’ photo’s of their forthcoming collections??
One, would think they would shower you with complimentary gifts, rather than bitch!!!
Haha, CHANEL thinks differently so don’t worry
Come on gals. This is NOT a statement from H&M – just an editors/reporters opinion.
- they’re definitely not talking about your blog
- your pictures have NEVER been blurry
- the article does give great shout outs to a bunch of blogs(ie. stylebytes)
-i’m sure you, and many bloggers, don’t love EVERY blog out there…and i’m sure you wish some bloggers would put more effort in to their layout and design….yes?
- yes it’s free advertising, but not to the point where your blog directly affects their sales(at least not an amount that would put them out of business if you stopped your h&m posts)(would you have a lot of bummed out readers if you stopped them…OH GOD YES!!)
**in response to allison lin** h&m has e-sales overseas, and the selection is minimal(and nothing worth looking at or buying online-it’s mostly basics), their focus is and always will be their stores……yes it’s so nice to be able to pre-shop or at least have an idea of what you want before you go to the store (believe me, there’s a few stores that i check out almost daily), but the turnaround and shelf life of most h&m garments is a nanosecond…they’d rather spend money on new stores instead of constant e-store updating…they’d also rather put their money towards global issues…safe working conditions in the factories they work with…
- do i sound much like i work at h&m? lol
- bottom line, if they knew about your blog…it definitely would have been mentioned in the article….or quite possibly you’d get an email requesting that you no longer take pictures in their stores….lol
It’s just a little blog put down, definitely nothing to do with you. You have a lot of knowledge, I’m sure there are many blogs that don’t. : )
I think if anyone has the right to be offended, it should be you and Agathe at Stylebytes. Because you both blog about it so much and are devoted shoppers.
And 2008 is quite far away, they must not even know what theyre talking about.
I dont see why anyone hasnt written them a letter/email yet.
Hi, I live in Sweden where we have a lot of great fashion blogs as well. Many of them focus on clothes from H&M since it is a Swedish brand. The interesting part is that instead of criticizing the blogs, H&M in Sweden has chosen to support them by occasionally giving the blog owners free clothes. In return the blog owners are asked to review the clothes and express their options to their readers, thus providing H&M with positive (not always) advertisement.
That’s messed up that they would say that. And yes you probably have helped boost their sales, you’re an H&M fanatic……sad stuff.
I certainly agree with you on that, especially I’ve been a fan of your blog and have known about your love with H&M. This is certainly hurtful. I for one saw the mention in the magazine and thought “what do they know about the power of bloggers and our reach to a wider audience?” Forget about writing for free and giving them free advertising, this is equavalent of dissing your biggest fan base. H&M really should’ve known better.
H&M irks me a little, actually. They say that they don’t have e-sales because they want to focus on new store openings, but they seem to think that only people in the Northeast or California buy clothes in this country.
If they’re going to make a big deal out of their designer collaborations and place their stuff in a number of the big women’s magazines, it’s kind of maddening that you can’t get the stuff in, say, Phoenix or Denver. Or even Vegas or Atlanta until recently, for that matter.
Hi, I live in Germany and last week, I saw the article, too (the H&m magazine is also published in german) and I’ve thought something similar than you wrote in this entry.
First, I was a bit confused, especially about what’s the reason h&m writes something like that. Do they read personal fashionblogs? And if they’re right (but I don’t think so about your blog), in the internet are so many useless and really stupid sites – why do h&m care about something like that?
But in conclusion don’t care about that, we all love your blog and if anybody don’t agree, he or she don’t have to read it any longer!
