One of the best things that happened to Old Navy is that they’ve made the right decision to makeover their image. The 34th store store in NYC definitely shows dramatic changes (though the Soho store still needs a 360 degree change) and more appealing to the 20-something crowd. So with their new strategy, fast fashion that changes every month you won’t get bored of seeing ON clothing like you used to. With changes the clothing became a bit more expensive but definitely still affordable.
First look at “The Spotlight” collection which focuses on “club gear”, expect lots of sequins, shiny materials, ruffles and girlie frocks. By adding a little “shine” to the dresses and tops, it takes a classic summer outfit into the night. The shoes are fab too, I’m hoping they’re from ON but I highly doubt it. The range is slated to hit Old Navy and oldnavy.com starting in June.

Press Release:
Old Navy’s Summer collection, in store during June and July, continues the brand’s strong focus on versatile, fashion-forward clothes and accessories. These looks will take customers easily from day to night whether at work, the beach or at a backyard barbeque. Bring out your inner rock-and-roll with a subtle spray of sequins on a tank top or a dress drenched in shine. Balance that style with classic pieces in reds, blues, and bandana prints.
Rocker Chic – Dance the night away with Old Navy’s rock-and-roll inspired pieces. If you’re going from work to play, a shiny tank dress ($29.50) or vest ($24.50) with sequined accents with skinny jeans ($34.50) does the trick. For those really looking to get noticed, put on a sequined racerback dress ($49.50) paired with studded suede heel for the full effect. Just want to update your look? Old Navy accessories will get the job done. Studded thong sandals ($19.50) or a glitter clutch ($12.50) can easily be paired with any outfit to give a classic look a sassy flair.
The New Neutrals – Add a twist to classic looks for work, by pairing a white pleated neck-tie shirt ($24.50) with chic and sophisticated khaki shorts with a hint of shimmer ($24.50). A fashionable, yet appropriate, lightweight, belted sweater dress ($34.50) with a fun belt and heels will transform your office work-wear. For those damp days, finish off your outfit with a classic black trench ($49.50).
Americana – Effortless style is a must for those relaxing summer days. Pops of color, whether on a red cap-sleeved dress ($29.50) or a yellow cropped jacket ($34.50) for those cooler nights, will update your look with ease. For those last minute weekend getaways, pack a cross-back bandana dress ($29.50) and sateen Bermuda shorts ($24.50) with a pair of flats; you’ll be prepared for any adventure. Look “barbeque chic” with a striped racerback knit dress ($24.50) to make a statement.

Wow, I’m really like this collection! In the past few years, I’ve only been going to Old Navy for the baby/kids clothes, but I might need to check out the women’s clothing.

Posted By: kristin | May 20th, 2008 at 9:44 amThat sparkle cardigan looks promising. I like the sequined tanks from the pictures too, but I think I need to see them in person first.

as for the “prada” shoes, that’s what i was thinking yesterday. it would be funny if they styled their clothes with prada shoes but even more funny if they are replicas haha. we’ll just have to wait and see.
Posted By: retrogurl | May 20th, 2008 at 1:46 pmmy list is the color block dress, 1/2 sleeve khaki trench, and the black sequined dress, and the entire shiny dress/cardigan outfit. old navy is really stepping it up!
Posted By: allison | May 20th, 2008 at 5:49 pmWow! Old Navy showing their clothes with designer shoes and ankle socks! I’m pretty excited about the menswear too.
Posted By: HF | May 20th, 2008 at 7:33 pmThe color block dress looks identical to a vena cava dress.
Posted By: nobody | May 20th, 2008 at 10:36 pmsurprisingly enough, i think i will be doing some damage at old navy this summer. i want that khaki trench coat, gold sequin tank top and the sequin bubble dress!!!!!!
Posted By: Camille | May 21st, 2008 at 12:03 amman i wish we knew where the shoes from the “Sequin Racerback Dress” came from!
Posted By: TKC | May 21st, 2008 at 1:29 ambut bravo old navy!
I like the black sequin dress and the tank dress with the ruffle hem… not to mention the pencil skirt!
But seriously though. It seems like this collection is going to be a hit… however some of the shapes may be to “experimental” for those… between the coasts (respect, ya’ll). Hopefully it does well. I wonder how much it costs R&D, advertising, model-booking, designers, photography, everything, just to put out this one new line. Phew.
Posted By: elissa/SpandexPony | May 21st, 2008 at 2:02 amwow, i’m impressed
Posted By: Vickie | May 21st, 2008 at 10:59 amI dunno but I think all of this looks rather dated, like really last season. The bubble dress, the sequined dress? It’s all been in stored already last fall. Especially as this collection is not even out yet. But I guess it’s a step in the right direction for Old Navy.
Posted By: Jen | May 21st, 2008 at 11:55 amWow! Very nice : )
I love the sweater and those gold and black shoes are fabulous (even tho I never wear heels!). I also like the gray pleated dress and the double buckle black belt!
I’m very glad Old Navy has decided to mix it up!
Posted By: erin | May 23rd, 2008 at 4:46 pmThe men’s pieces aren’t really doing anything for me, but the women’s are incredible–especially coming from Old Navy. Very impressive.
Posted By: The Q | May 23rd, 2008 at 8:01 pmwow! i think the gem is the sweater dress.
