Ever since I’ve learned about Thailand-based brand Disaya, designed by the brainchild of Disaya Sorakraikitiku, last year I’ve been quite intrigued by her designs. For Fall 2009, Disaya’s jewelry collection finds its inspiration in the contradiction between the lighthearted and dark nature of the celestial warrior’s adventures. The lighthearted element is seen in chunky Smiley enamel bangles (super cute) and slogan scribed bangles displaying words such as ‘Oops!,’ and ‘Yes!’ The darkness is displayed in crystal encrusted skull pendants and black constellation inspired cuffs. Disaya’s trademark teddy bears have been given individual character this season with cheeky enamel patterns, which give the bears the illusion of having tattoos. From a calm starry night to an exciting outer space romp, Disaya carries us through a magical celestial treasure hunt. At the end of the adventure, what remains are fragments of the quest, clearly witnessed throughout this inspired collection.
