Matthew Williamson for H&M Summer 2009 Mens Collection
Photography: John Scarisbrick

I just posted up the Matthew Williamson for H&M Summer 2009 Collection ad campaign featuring Matthew Williamson modeling his own collection for the first time. Now let’s take a closer look at the men’s collection which is Williamson’s first time releasing a menswear collection in his career. There’s a few pieces that I’d totally wear like the studded motorcyle leather jacket, belts and scarves. I might consider picking up the beach towel, looks great! The Summer collection will not be as limited at the Spring collection that recently launched on April 23rd, it will be available on May 14th in around 1600 H&M stores worldwide. The collection will be in store longer than any H&M designer collaboration before.

Men price examples: Seersucker blazer € 99/£69.99, Cuban-style shirt € 29.90/£19.99, Jeans € 49.90/£29.99, Tie-dye sweater € 39.90/£29.99, Board shorts € 29.90/£19.99, Swim shorts € 24.90/£19.99

The men’s collection takes inspiration from Williamson’s own wardrobe, mixing a dapper young gentleman’s style with hot colour and covetable ethnic influences. “I have aimed to incorporate a styling juxtaposition where global inspiration is fused with quintessential English style,” says Williamson. Seersucker blazers look their best when worn with Cuban-style printed shirts, while denim comes in strong blue and vivid pink. Tie-dye sweaters come in purple and pink, while a T-shirt comes with Williamson’s signature peacock print. For the beach there are board shorts or little swim shorts, and pulling the whole look together is an accessory that is Williamson’s personal signature – a large, crinkled scarf.

Boys are you excited? Do you guys like the collection?

I can’t see very many guys wearing those outfits. They’re way too fruity.

  • itsLosNY says:

I’m with koko, other than the studded jacket the stuff is a little too out there for me

  • Kikoman says:

I like the studded jacket, sneakers, turquoise shorts, seersucker jacket and that’s it. I think this collection is really aiming for gay guys around the world and you know they will be screaming in joy to have these pieces lol! H&M has a lot of gay customers so I think this collection will do fine. They just have to promote toward gay people more. I’m gay myself but I’m not that gay to wear all of these lol. BTW, I don’t get the styling of beige Converse sneakers with those suits at all. Not edgy, just out of place!

  • gilbert says:

I like the studded leather jacket but I don’t think I will be able to pull it off. The bikini swim trunks are pretty daring, I don’t think a lot of guys would dare to wear that, at least not me. But I would definitely get the vintage blue long sleeve shirt on page 3, it is so “That 70’s show.” The blazer with the colorful rim looks fun too.

  • DM says:

No those outfits were and ARE just right. I FrIggIN LOVE IT! He is a beautiful visionary who Was NEEDED to breathe some LIfe into H&M Mens… WHere will these products be distributed? Please say More than NY! lol

  • fotoboi says:

i agree. I like the suit.. and the scarf.. but other then that.. maybe the t-shirts…

  • Filipino Maid says:

I think the trick here is to mix and match these loud stuff with more subdue stuff from other places….then it’s ok.

  • Slater says:

I just hope future designers for H&M do men’s collections too. Not feeling any of it. Most likely gonna get the boardshorts.

  • Chrissy says:

This collection will be avaible in all H&M stores.

  • Too bad says:

Kikoman- Thats sad a gay dissed gays. Just bc you’re gay does not mean you wear bright printed clothing. This is one designers vision, not a “gay look”. You must not be too bright.

  • blomcd says:

I think the swedish model Niklas Nilsson deserves a major fragrance after these awesome pics. Matthew Williamson is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!

  • Kikoman says:

Too bad, You ARE the one who isn’t too bright. I menat some gay guys would appriciate this collection but not all. Gay guys all have different taste and style. Lighten up and take your cynical attitude to perezhilton.com. Thank you!

  • I LOVE IT ALL CAN’T WAIT TO GET THAT STUDDED JACKET AND THOSE TWO SCARVES.

  • Richie (from Portugal) says:

Some gay guys will appreciate all the colourfull an bright pieces…BUT some straight guys will appreciate them also.

    Sad comment, not very bright.

Wonderfull collection. I have already seen all the pieces live, god materials, beautifull colours. It’s fine to wear some pieces together, or matched with “not so coloured” pieces.

It just dependes on your taste, and the ocasion you are dressing for.

Hugs from Portugal, and enjoy the collection

  • Ives says:

Does anyone know what the prices are? I really want the leather jacket, it’s amazing. Hopefully it’ll be around $250.

  • colter says:

does anybody know which stores are getting the mens?

  • Ives says:

What time did people go line up last time? I’m planning to go as early as I can. Around 6-7 since the door opens at 10.

  • Alex says:

Yeah the collection is available in all the stores, but some stores will get a small collection compared to others. The higher priced/high fasion pieces like the leather jacket will go to the larger h&m stores which sucks :(

  • Ives says:

Has anyone been able to get a job at H&M? I’ve tried so many times and I never get a call back! It’s really frustrating. I would love to work there. I just wish you could apply within store rather than their online application. Why is it so hard to get a job there?

  • Jerr says:

i applied and got a call from right after. it was freaky. i had the phone interview and 5 mintues later i got an email from them that i didnt get the job.

    fastest rejection ever.

anyway is the STUDDED JACKET REALLY $250?!

  • Ives says:

Man, I wish I could get a job there. I never hear back from them.

Anyways, yeah I believe that Studded Jacket is $250. I read it on theFashionSpot.

  • Odo says:

I just love the studded jacket. I definately want that. I will pay anything for it. MB

  • Carolin says:

i’m female but like the look of the men’s collection. I thought about buying the sun glasses for me even if I’m a woman. Can someone tell me if the sun glasses will have the label on it?

  • Chrissie says:

The collection is wonderful, and I think it suits everyone’s taste! Gay or not gay, there is no specific target in my opinion! Men that can dress well usually have a tendency for more “stylish” items, and most of the time, gay clothing is just more stylish!! Straight men with confidence can wear this collection and believe me, they will look HOT!

  • Chrissie says:

    I MEAN HOOOOOT!

  • MrB says:

Working for H&M (in the UK) I can say that I think most average stores here mainly got the shorts, short sleeved shirt (blue/purple), floral scarf and three t-shirts designs (the peacock ones). My store is a little larger so we got the pink and blue denim and the black suit with colour detailing and co-ordinating shirt. No sneakers either.

As for the rest, I think it is only the bigger stores that get them, (which is infuriating as I adore that light suit and floral shirt combination), especially the leather jacket which is the most expensive item I believe.

In fact the only dud for me was the suit with the shorts, and thats only because I still personally feels its a little wrong to not have trousers with a blazer.. :) Oh, and the cut off green studded shorts.. hmmm.

  • brian. says:

i saw this collection in the store and i thought it appealed to a younger audience who still reveled in bright color outfits and silly sneakers. i think the womenswear collection is great but the menswear falls flat on it’s face. although making past high priced fashion items affordable for the fashionista on a budget(the blazer with bright colored trimmed obviously snatch ed from balenciaga f/w 07 & the givenchy studded leather).
the mens shoes however are disgusting and look absolutely silly.
i think matthew williamson’s menswear s/s for h&m is a good start for his foray into menswear but really solidifies the fact that he is at the end of the day a womenswear designer.

  • Beard says:

I think it’s all hideous. Eccentric gays like this Williamson-guy should be kept off fashion school. Green and red pants are something you wear as a kid, once you’re in your teenage years, you notice that it’s a fashion no-go, else you get mocked by others.

There’s absolutely no occasion where one could wear this stuff. You’re throwing away money and making someone else rich for something you’ll be wearing one day, then you notice it was already out of fashion before it even was an idea for Williamson.

And I’m gay too. I do like my slightly-used-look jeans and t-shirts with prints on it, but not that “faggy” and eccentric. If you wear this collection, I know at least which men to avoid.

  • Naheed says:

I have been looking on all kind of websites (from H&M to Matthew williamson) to find a special men’s shirt designed by M.Williamson for H&M a couple of months ago. I have already bought that shirt and it is still in your stores…I just checked a week ago!
However I cannot find a picture of that shirt anywhere…..!!! It is a flowery design mostly blue and shades of blue with some pinkish colour in it it has two pockets on the chest ….it is a shirt and not a Tshirt though….

Can you please mail me a photo of this shirt??? Or else guide me to the place where I can find it?? I spent 3 hours online today looking for it ….
    Thanks and Regards
    Naheed
