Huge Lips, Skinny Hips by PurpleLab Launch Event

This is a bit overdue but we were asked to hold off on posting the launch event until the product was released in stores so here it is! For those of you that follow my Twitter already know that back in February I was invited by Karen Robinovitz, Founder of PurpleLab, to attend her first product launch, Huge Lips, Skinny Hips. I thought it was just a typical product launch event with beauty bloggers, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres but little did I know it was a full day agenda. The events were carefully thought out and went according to the inspiration of each name of the lip gloss which I thought was brilliant and really cute. Designed to inspire with every application, the collection’s six hues pay homage to Karen’s favorite icons and philosophies.

The event started at S. Factor where we learned how to pole dance which inspired the Kitty Pole Dancer gloss. After S. Factor, we went to the Christian Louboutin store to check out the gorgeous shoes while sipping champagne which inspired the Red Sole gloss (my favorite). Karen gave away a $700 gift certificate to one lucky blogger but unfortunately I didn’t win, boo! After lusting over red soles we made way to Meet in Soho where the bartender Colin served us Lychee Martinis which inspired the Lychee Martini gloss. Colin also taught us how to make lychee martinis, fun! Then we moved on to the next room where Karen presented everyone with books that she made about her slight obsession with Kate Moss which inspired the Worship Kate gloss, who doesn’t luv Kate! We then were treated to delicious mini cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery and Karen gave everyone a pair of seamless OnGossamer Hip-g’s that were purple, No Panty Lines need I say more?! Last but not least, the last thing on the agenda was a burlusque performance by the infamous Veronica Varlow which blew everyone away. She then taught us how to sexily put on and take off thigh highs from her line Danger Dame and this inspired the Love Your Thighs gloss! It was a fun filled event, I a lot of fun.

Now that you’re read about the fun let’s get back to the product Huge Lips, Skinny Hips is a collection of six lip glosses that is said to give you a plumper pout and a slimmer figure. With the market saturated with tons of beauty products there has to be a gimmick to bring attention to consumers and I think Karen hit the jackpot. Everyone loves to indulge in their favorite food then feel guilty afterward with the revolutionary formulation featuring Hoodia Gordoni Extract it has appetite-suppressing benefits. The formulation also includes Vitamin B3 to stimulate blood flow to the lip surface, diminish the appearance of unsightly wrinkles around the lip area and comfortably create a plumping effect without stinging or burning (its true I tried it myself plus the gloss tastes and smells good too). My favorite is the Red Sole, Lychee Martini and Kitty Poledancer. The glosses are available starting today at b~glowing, Scoop and Space NK for $20, tell me what you think if you try it!

“Huge Lips, Skinny Hips is the answer to every girl’s beauty dreams—sophisticated lip color, plumping performance and a natural way to curb those carb cravings,” says Purple Lab Creatrix, fashion/beauty insider, author and media personality Karen Robinovitz. “It’s the perfect secret weapon for surviving cocktail parties without succumbing to all the hors d’oeuvres.”

Encouraging every girl to want to look like a blow-up doll + lychee martinis + freaking Magnolia cupcakes? “Worshipping” banal brands that everyone on earth knows about like Kate and Louboutins? Way to pair a poorly-conceived product that’s sure to be a rip-off with lame trends from five years ago! I’m so disappointed that you would agree to shill this, Wendy.

  3. Karen says:

Great job on the review, Wendy! I’ve been following your blog for awhile and I think your writing style has really developed. The product sounds interesting. It is a gimmick, but you know what, who cares?

  5. Jessica says:

This is just silly. There was a gloss like this that came out five years ago, all they do is make you feel dehydrated. Wendy, you’ll rep anything these days!!!

  6. retrogurl says:

First of all push aside all the hoodia and lip plumper ish I do like the glosses and colors so I don’t see nothing wrong with that.

Second this is a blog, I write up new stuff or stuff I like how else will readers that read this blog know about it? Can’t please everyone and not planning to, everyone is entitled to their thoughts but if I was “repping everything” nowadays how come I don’t see every single brand on this blog? Please…

  7. j_bot says:

OMG! This is EVERYTHING I LOVE! Shoes, cupcakes, martinis with the girls, strip teases lol! And the little stories about what inspired each flavor are so cute! Seriously? This is the biggest bunch of shit marketing I’ve seen in a while. This is just a collection of every annoying, dated SitC cliche. Step it up girl! You don’t have to shill everything that comes your way. Take some notes from Gala Darling.

    So fun!

I don’t get why everyone has such an issue with your posts, Wendy. There are so many blogs out there, if you don’t like it, just move on!

I’ve also been trying to locate where I could try some. I’ve looked online without luck. I signed up on the Purple Labs website for a “ping” when it was launched. I haven’t received a ping yet & haven’t found any stores or websites that carry it. I would be curious to test it out, although $20 is a bit steep for me to spend on a gloss.

i just stumbled across this post, and unless im mistaken, is that judith sepine at christian louboutin??? if so, crazy. so great to see the kid blowing up and getting recognition for his works.

  13. LadyB says:

I’m still looking for it. Still not shown for sale on the websites listed in this blog, still can’t find it for sale online, not able to locate any stores that carry it and sell it online or via catalog. In other words, it doesn’t seem to be available to the general public. Does anyone have any confirrmed info?

  14. Rin says:

Argghhh Wendy I’m so jealous! I pole dance for fun and I also had a class with Veronica before..she’s funny and def one clever and tough cookie :) It looks like you had an amazing time!
