Minx Nails @ Bliss Spa

Back in October, my girl Dorothy pampered me and took me to Bliss Spa to get my first set of Minx Nails. We were both super excited since it was our first time but was disappointed with the service and lack of film choices. We were basically rushed through the entire process, once we sat down we were rushed to choose our nail designs (not much to choose from) since they had another appointment after us so they didn’t want to be “late”. Wasn’t feelin’ that but we sucked it up since we wanted to get it pretty badly and sat through it. The process was easy, they filed our nails and then measured the nail against the film to get the correct size (it’s never perfect since it is made of film), then heated the film under a lamp and applied it to the nail then filed it to fit the nail. The good thing about Minx is that it is applied with heat so there’s no fuss with drying and smudging but the catch is it doesn’t last very long and rips off easily. Both our nail technicians didn’t do a good job, a lot of it started peeling off before we left the salon (had them fix it) and a few of our nails were filed super crooked especially Dorothy’s. The whole process took about 45 minutes. The end result of the Minx Nails is pretty amazing, it lasted about 2 weeks. I hope the next time I get Minx, I will have a better experience.

Have you tried Minx Nails? Do you like or dislike?

I haven’t tried minx yet but I hope to very soon. I have heard that the technician’s skill can make or break the experience, so I am on the hunt for a good place to get them done. Your nails look awesome btw, I love that pattern!

They are quite pretty but did you prefer the calgel over minx? not considering the service that is-just the products themselves

  4. they look really cute! i think i’d try it but it’s sorta expensive.

    thanks for the report.

i did not know that ripping and peeling were a major issue with minx.

one salon here in boston started doing minx last month. i think i will wait until the technicians have it down pat.

  9. Taylor says:

i loooove how these look! i myself haven’t had them done, but i actually picked up some nail stickers at the dollar store that look just as good as minx. they’re not quite wide enough for my nail so i bought two packs (it comes 3 to a pack for $1, so….). it comes in red leopard, cheetah, and zebra print. kinda tacky but also awesome. dollar store nails FTW.

Omigosh! Thats my job! I work at the front desk. Why wasn’t I working when you came in?!? Geez. Btw Galina, the woman that did ur nails, does the best minx I’ve ever seen done. They are always neat and on point. Hope you’re in again soon.

  11. retrogurl says:

@nikisha: lol doesn’t seem like galina was on point that night, i was super frustrated with both of them!!!! me and my friend hated the experience!

  12. I will admit I did like it. But the cost isn’t worth it and on my nails they only lasted about a week that is it. So I won’t be doing it again.

I’d love to try Minx but there is only one salon in New Orleans that does it and at Minx prices it better be perfect!

I just ordered my Minx Nail kit, and am hoping it will be waiting at the salon for me on Tuesday. I’ve been reading a lot of online reviews from clients, and it’s wonderful to hear all of the feedback. I plan on spending the entire month of January perfecting Minx on my models, and will be offering them to clients in February. Hopefully I will be able to offer a faster and more efficient service than you received.

    They did look hot though!

Wow, I'm sorry to hear you had such a poor experience with getting Minxed. You should call Minx and let them know what a poor job that this salon did (they might even know of a better salon in your area). I know they love hearing about all experiences, good or bad, that people have with Minx. From these pictures it doesn't look like these techs were filing the Minx correctly. Mine will last a month and I work with my hands building in a wood shop, they do get scratch up but they don't fall off. In fact when I do want to take them off I have to heat them up to get them off, I can't just peel them off. It really just sounds like these techs do not know what they are doing and should not be applying Minx until they perfect their technique. I am glad to hear that you're not letting this experience ruin Minx for you and going to give it another try. You should go the website (www.minxnails.com) before your next visit and look up the design you love so you can have your nail tech order for you. They have so many rad designs! I hope next time you're not rushed and have fun Minxing 'cause it really is suppose to be fun!
