Zara Launching Online Store in Fall 2010

Good news and bad news. The good news is that Zara is launching an online store in fall 2010 but the bad news is it will start in markets like Spain, France, Italy, Germany, the U.K. and Portugal, then followed by a progressive rollout in other countries. No US again, we’ll just have to sit tight and wait…again! Well at least that’s a start with online retailing, hopefully it will be introduced in the US soon.

According to WWD, the decision to make Zara available online has been praised as a logical step for the Spanish company, given the rising competition from pure-play European clothing e-tailers like Asos as well as the growing online operations of rivals such as H&M and New Look.

“The strategic move online is a welcome development for its core Zara fascia that will help boost group sales, making Inditex less reliant on new space to drive sales growth,” according to retail intelligence firm Verdict Research.

This is great. There’s only one Zara’s here in Houston and it’s at the Galleria. I live about an hour away from it.

  2. Amelie says:

^^^finally… just hope they’ll sell pcs they carry abroad for Ecom. Everyone whos traveled outside the US knows that ZARA;s away is much better than here!

  3. Amelie says:

clearing i read so fast and didnt see they’re not yet launching in the US

  4. Jen says:

I don’t like the way Zara stores are set up around where I live, and I always want to leave before I find anything good. I wish we could get it online sooner!

  5. Ally says:

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH so f-ing excited. It’s about time!! No Zara where I live.

  6. Ally says:

aww f I missed the no US part til now. Why do you continue to hurt me Zara? why?

  7. Vera says:

Hope, it will not reflect on the prices – I have to admit, since the start of the craises their prices have risen a lot.

And, furthermore, according to that national money in Russia has fallen down to euro, ZARA things now in Russia are absolutely not cheap ones. Sometimes they are expensive.

  8. Vera says:

And I hardly understand the need of ZARA online shops in Spain – they are nearly at the every corner!

  9. Richie says:

Hello. Love your blog, but there are some things I don’t like to read…

I just don’t understand why you guys are so obssessed with yourselfs, like if you don’t have access to almost everything. I mean, you live in the US! In Portugal and Spain we don’t have a Zara in every corner…that maybe true in major cities, Lisbon, Oporto, Madrid, Barcelona, Seville…and if you had the possibility of living here for a while, you would realize that we don’t have access to all. Ebay, just to mention one example: we can hardly get anything from there because most tuff is not available for coutries outside the US, and if they are probably we will pay a fortune on shipping. But I thing I would not prefer to live outside Europe…I love Europe, eheheh

So, I think you should consider yourself lucky to have Zara stores in the US ;)

Love your blog, keep up the good work. Greetings from Portugal

    Richie =)

  10. Kate says:

    FINALLY the UK gets something.

  11. Rita Andrade says:

Portugal? PORTUGAL? OH MY GOD! Yes yes yes!!!! :D

  12. T.Linh says:

yay! what a luck, I live in germany.. I can’t wait any longer.. the next ZARA store is about 50km far away. ._.

and I love ur blog! great job, u make me jealous hehe

  13. yeni says:

    BRILLIANT news

  14. ana says:

I agree with you Richie. Altough I live in Spain, there is no Zara in my city/island, the nearest one is… 50 min flying away. So this is a good news for me!

  15. Babs says:

I wonder when they will have ZARA in Sydney Australia.

    • veronica says:

I have just come back from my holiday in Europe and bought heaps of Zara clothing also cannot wait for a store to open in Sydney would be great

  16. Coltrane Carsten says:

I am so angry at this company for not having their products available online. It's like an invisible company, you go to their website and can't order stuff nor find out where a store is located. I have one pair of pants that were given to me by a friend and that's it because it's impossible to get them. I'm turning 18 and I just wanted some more of their clothing for my birthday but I guess that's not going happen.

  17. Julie says:

    Please bring Zara to AUSTRALIA!!!!!

    Pretty,Pretty Please!!!!!

  18. kerstin says:

Again the USA is getting the last bad treatment. I fly to Germany twice a year to see friends. I cannot beliefe how modern and ahead Germany is next to the USA. We are 50 years behind the beat when it comes to modern clothing for size 14. Thanks Germany for giving me high fashion for many years in size 14 and high quality for good prices. It's worth the flying price and more.

  19. kerstin says:

Zara, you are making me angry over treating the USA like a step child. Why do you play hard to get in todays market? are you so backward and all of your workers and CEO'S should be fired.

  20. Boston, MA says:

Zara , I just came from your Boston store.
I love your children's line. Unfortunately, they are often out of the sizes I need at the stores.
I would love the ability to order stuff on-line or even order it straight to the store for pick-up. Would it be that hard to create an on-line option in the USA? At any rate, don't let the quality nose dive like H an M has. I rather have the clothes be a bit harder to get than poorly made. The stuff I have purchased in Europe and now even in Boston and NYC has held up pretty well. So, good Luck with your marketing plan. It is good to be loved, especially in this Economy!

  21. Lucy says:

I used to lived in Mexico. They have a ZARA at every mall I went!!! (even the ones close to "crappy" neighborhoods). I love their simple shirts and tops (those that the style is just simple), are budget friendly and they have exelent quality of fabric, and stitches (I even compare to those brands like Abercrombie, Hollister, that they sell their simple tops/blouses at exorbitant prices compare to the quality of fabric and stitches).
Now I live at the US and the only places they have stores close to me are at San Antonio, Austin or Houston. It's not fair!! I mean people at the US have more money "to spend" than people in Mexico (just the fact that economy is better at USA than in Mexico) and there even the crappy malls have Zara stores (and other brands from same company like Bershka)??.
Well, now I udertand why there where a LOT of americans buying at those stores at Mexico.

  22. andy says:

i´d appreciate a couple of more stores in slovakia. there are two, but the stuff available in them is miles away from the stuff i saw abroad. i don´t know whether this country is considered as a junkyard or else.. sizes that nobody buys or things from collections that are pasé for over a year or two

  23. John says:

I used to be a fanatic fans of ZARA, back in Madrid, Spain. Unfortunately, I moved to Seattle, WA, a year ago. Then I realized that ZARA wasn't here. Then I surprised when I heard that ZARA online store was opened in some euro coutries, but not in US. I just wonder why do you think they need online store in Spain. There are ZARA stores everywhere.

Thanks to A|X, I can shop some high quality goods. bye2x ZARA
