Back in March, I was invited to preview Nicole Richie’s Winter Kate Fall 2010 clothing line in New York City. Nicole is the posterchild for modern boho-luxe, and while her fall collection stays true to this aesthetic with easy tops, a flowy dress and kimono-like cardigans, it’s a tinge darker and happily includes more structured pieces. The inspiration, Richie told InStyle.com, comes from the movie From Hell. “It’s about the free masons and Jack the Ripper so it’s definitely about that time [period],” she says. “We have capes and cigarette pants, vests, jackets and blazers. There are cleaner lines and it’s a lot more simple.” Fabrics like crushed velvet, lace and silk help to reference decades-past as does the moody palette of mostly black, off-white, crimson and ink-blue. High points for me had to be the wool coats and the printed silk pieces which, while lacking hanger appeal, look amazingly effortless on the body. Overall, it’s a wearable, sophisticated collection that manages to be cool without taking itself too seriously. yawn* this collection is pretty boring. the jackets are typical and sheer tops can be found at H&M + F21 + ZARA. overpriced items… i am underwhelmed

eh, not great. I don't like all the boring sheer printed tops. I'd look at the military style vest and the black bustier…but I don't really think those look like 'Nicole' at all. I think this collection sort of proves the influence Rachel Zoe had on Nicole..
Totally loving that coat and the peacock feather print kimono. So fab!!
