H&M‘s Divided Art series collection is back for Spring 2012 and will feature four graphic designers work including Fanny Gentle, Alexis Anne Mackenzie, Saskia Pomeroy and Johnny Ryan. The series consists of T-shirts, tank tops and leggings, here’s a preview of what to expect. The collection is scheduled to release in February at H&M Divided departments. I quite like Saskia Pomeroy and Johnny Ryan’s prints, pretty cool!
On day 2 of my Amsterdam trip it was all about sightseeing and lots of walking. NBTC arranged a 3-hour guided tour to take me around the city, it was my first time having a guided tour and I highly recommend getting one if it’s the first time visiting a foreign country. Willem took me to the most famous neighborhood in Holland, which is the ‘Jordaan’. I was told this characteristic quarter in the canal area of Amsterdam has many narrow streets, which house trendy shops, modern restaurants and traditional cafes. Then onto the famous De 9 Straatjes (The Nine Streets) which is a melting pot for all sorts of fashion. There are vintage shops, trendy boutiques, designer studios, jewelers, art galleries, specialty foods stores and lot’s of fine cafes, lunchrooms and restaurants. Definitely a spot for all fashionistas. We also took a stroll down the Red Light District, definitely nothing like what I’ve seen before and it’s not only for men, there were tons of women walking around the neighborhood as well. RLD consists of theaters, shops, museums, restaurants, bars, coffee shops and of course the famous “red light” windows with sexy girls and places to see live adult entertainment. After the tour, I stopped by Kalverstraat to do some shopping before my feet gave up on me. Dinner was arranged by NBTC at the Culinaire Werkplaats. The restaurant is a novel eating initiative and experience located opposite Amsterdam’s culture park Westergasfabriek. Being a blend of a design studio and a restaurant for contemporary food and eating concepts, they create contemporary dishes, snacks, bites, delicatessen, new foods and sometimes even new ways of eating every month. I wasn’t too sure what to expect but decided to give it a try. The approach and idea was unique and interesting but the food was not meant for everyone. The food requires an acquired taste and it was definitely not my cup of tea. It was 5-course vegetarian meal (small portions) and it was long, 3+ hours long. I’m a picky eater so I didn’t enjoy the meal, I had bites of everything just to try it out but was still pretty hungry after I left. For me food is about being satisfied and making myself happy but that didn’t happen at Culinaire Werkplaats. After dinner, I stopped by Burger Bar to fulfill my needs, that was satisfying. Lots of photos after the jump… > Amsterdam 2011 Day 1
The Sunglass Hut Artist Series is an annual program that sources up-and-coming artists to create exclusive collectible sunglasses in support of OneSight – the charitable foundation created to help restore and preserve clear vision for adults and children in need worldwide. This year, Sunglass Hut has partnered with Magda Sayeg aka KNITTA to create edition sunglasses, which will be available exclusively at SunglassHut.com. Each pair retails for $130, $30 of which will benefit OneSight. Considered to be the mother of yarn bombing, KNITTA leads community-based projects to beautify urban areas around the world. Her installations have also been featured prominently at American monuments to contemporary culture, such as The Standard Hotel, South By Southwest, and the Austin City Limits Festival. How amazing are these sunglasses? So unique and amazing right?! I want!
The day after NYFW I was planning to stay home and rest but I couldn’t miss the Kidrobot x Swatch launch event at the new Swatch store on 5th Ave. There was live painting with Kidrobot artists: Frank Kozik, Mad and Jeremyville, and of course sounds by my friend Vashtie. I love the collection, super cute. I’m glad I went, I had a good time. PS. Sorry for the not so good photos, I forgot my camera and only could use my BlackBerry!
On the second night of NYFW, Vladimir Restoin Roitfeld and Andy Valmorbida, in collaboration with Giorgio Armani and Phillips de Pury & Company, presented Richard Hambleton: A Retrospective, a survey of selected historical works from the legendary painter. The exhibition highlights 50 of Hambleton’s most influential works spanning from 1982 to the present, as well as twenty iconic images of the artist’s work chronicled by photographer Hank O’Neal. The opening event was pretty amazing, it was packed with supermodels and fabulous people. I kept my eyes open to see if I was able to spot Mary-Kate Olsen but had no luck, but I was happy to see Carine Roitfeld! *I still have a ton of NYFW pics to post, please bear with me! Wow, seriously Missoni is doing it big! Collaborations after collaborations, we just saw the Missoni for Target collection lookbook, now news released that Missoni will design its first residential building in the entire world. Collaborating with real estate developer Century Properties, Missoni Home will design the interiors and amenity spaces of a condo building in Manila, Philippines. This announcement comes on the heels of Century Properties latest luxury condo project with Versace Home for The Milano Residences, which is already 75% sold. I’m already planning to buy up all the Missoni for Target home stuff, so I’m pretty sure this new condo building will look SICK! Can’t wait to see the final outcome.
I loved the first Andy Warhol x Incase collection, so happy they announced today the second release of designs in the Incase for Andy Warhol Collection. “The latest collection release highlights Warhol’s artistic range, featuring imagery from works in a variety of media including silkscreening (Elvis, Advertisements), film (Empire) and hand-drawing (Telephone, Do It Yourself Flowers). Iconic Warhol images turn Incase’s signature protective cases and bags for iPhone, iPad and MacBook into functional pieces of art, a tribute to the great American artist’s affinity for technology and its place in contemporary culture and the arts.” The Incase for Andy Warhol Collection are available today at goincase.com, with a limited range to follow at Apple retail and discerning boutiques worldwide. I love the collection, I think it’s time to get a new iPad case and MacBook Pro sleeve! Which design do you like the most? I can’t choose! |
