Photography via COS

Ever since I’ve learned about COS back in 2007, I’ve been anticipating for a store to open in NYC. Still no news on expansion yet but I’ve been keeping an eye on the collections coming out from this brand. COS is a subsidiary of H&M, with higher price points but from the meticulous fabrics finish and fit, it looks well worth it. For the Autumn/Winter ‘08 collection they were inspired by “cupcakes, artists and the everyday mundane”. The range is very simply and ‘proper’ but I really like it, I especially love the coats and the plainness of all the clothes which can all be staples. I want everything from this collection! Check out the 34 looks from the range, you definitely won’t be disappointed!

A new CW series Stylista (formally named Fashionista), a Devil Wears Prada-esque reality competition produced by Top Model Tyra Banks is about to kick-off for fall on Wednesday nights with 11 “aspiring fashion enthusiasts” competing for a job at Elle magazine. They work as assistants to Elle’s Fashion News Director, Anne Slowey and completes a fashion editorial assignment in each episode - the last assistant standing will get promoted to a real-life job opportunity. The winner will get a paid editorial position at Elle, a paid lease on a Manhattan apartment and a clothing allowance at H&M valued at $100,000 for one year. Jennifer/H&M & Me

Last night I was at the H&M Summer 2008 Luxury Leisure collection launch party at the fab Gramercy Park Hotel Roof Deck. The roof deck and garden is amazing, too bad the weather wasn’t so great if it was all the glass would retract and we’ll be able to feel the summer breeze. The party was bumpin’ with live DJ spinning and open bar along with fashionistas strolling up and down the roof top. It was a great night, I caught up with Jennifer from H&M (thanks), met two new friends, Nana from Bluefly and Alexis from AOL Black Voices. Nana even gave me a shout-out on flypaper, FAB! I was in a great mood last night, had many compliments on my outfit - do I even need to mention where I copped my floral dress?

After the H&M party, I went downstairs to chit-chat and have a drink at Wakiya. I called it a night after…

Last Saturday I had one hour to kill before meeting up with a few friends for brunch, so shopped around Soho to see what’s new. Saw the guys painting the Daria Werbowy for H&M Summer ad while passing through, then headed straight to H&M. Most of the items I want are still not released yet, so anxious to get them but I did pick up two dresses so that made up for it. Lots of floral prints invading H&M, cute and flirty dresses, skirts and tops for Spring/Summer! Enjoy!

If you are one that is hoping for Versace to create a limited edition collection with H&M, it won’t happen as long as Donatella heads the label. On Sunday at the TimesTalk, T editor Stefano Tonchi held a discussion with her about fashion, politics, and growing up as a Versace. Below is what she said about doing a line with H&M:

“I was asked to do that, too, and the reason I didn’t and said no is because I worked very hard to put Versace in the luxury segment and I didn’t want to confuse the brands.” via FWD

Little by little the images for the H&M Summer 2008 ad campaign featuring Daria Werbowy and Lara Stone were posted on the web. Here is the full preview of the ads, they are fab - especially Daria!

“This season H&M draws inspiration from faraway places with a series of exotic prints. Trends for summer include lightweight tailoring, bohemian styles, ornate embellishment and bold accessories.”

The Summer collection was inspired by hot holidays in Africa, India, Hawaii and South America, expect to see lots of ethnic-style prints such as tropical flowers and leaves, ikat designs, dip-dyes and ombre effects. Can’t wait!!

After lunch I took a break from work and strolled down to Soho to check out what’s new at H&M. The store was packed and surprisingly most of the Marimekko stuff were sold out. The store was full of bright colors, bold prints, floral and ‘hand-painted’ (strokes, painterly flowers) pieces. Hopefully the pieces I want from the May/June preview will be out soon, I’ve been checking constantly for it.
