Vintage Spots #21 - Metropolis

Metropolis
43 3rd Avenue
New York, NY 10003

Photography & Written by: Jessica Tong

Last year I ducked into Metropolis because of a massive rain storm, I was pleasantly surprised to have discovered one of my favorite vintage spots in New York with a wide variety of shoes. They also have a lot of coats and t-shirts, dresses and a selection of vintage airliner bags that are worth a gander if you have time, but the the shoe and boot selection will keep you busy for quite a while. They carry tons and tons of styles in a range of sizes, including those hard to find small sizes. So if you are dying to find a refined pair of pumps to go with a summery frock or knee high flat boots to roam the street on a shopping mission for great fall finds Metropolis is a great place to start. In the past year i haven’t left this store without a shoe purchase!

Vintage Spots #20 - PDX: Rock N’ Rose

Rock N’ Rose
616 East Burnside
Portland, OR 97215

My last shopping stop while I was in Portland was Rock N’ Rose, this spot is one of the newer vintage spots in the neighborhood. The shop is clean and big (1600 sq ft), no digging need, everything is neatly hung on racks and the price tags were very reasonable. I tried on many things and wanted to buy several coats/jackets but of course I was stopped by B, I have no self control sometimes. But I did end up buying one faux fur vintage coat, it is sooooooo cute, I saw it as I entered the store and I knew it was going to be mine! This is def a good spot for vintage finds, their goods are nicely picked and kept very well. I will go back if I ever visit PDX again, peep the pics after the jump…

Stella Dallas Vintage and Used Clothing stands up to its name in ambiance and décor. Entering this store, I felt like I was at a small boutique in a town with dusted roads and vintage pick up trucks roaring by. Hidden on a tree lined block in the heart of the village, this Japanese owned store has a wide variety in small sizes. They offer a huge selection of shoes, boots, accessories, skirts and most off all, dresses. From those fit for a prom night to simple frock fit for the drive in, they are organized by color and occasion. To top it off they are having a 20% off sale off everything in the store, excluded are scarves, aprons and show case items. This is a great way to spend an afternoon! Stop by and pick through the western and high waisted skirt rack, rummage through the tons and tons of scarves or try on a shift and have a Doris Day moment. Stella Dallas Vintage and Used Clothing truly offers a mosey on down memory lane.

Vintage Spots #18 - PDX: Xtabay

Swung by Xtabay after shopping at Bombshell Vintage to check out more vintage spots since vintage shopping in NYC is very hard and expensive. Just after one shopping event this spot has became one of my favorites for vintage finds! Though I’m not sure when I’ll ever visit PDX again, if I do I will def pay another visit. They have a nice selection of vintage clothing and accessories, the stuff is in pristine condition and you can tell clothes there are hand picked. I didn’t have much time, but I highly recommend spending some serious time there trying things on. The staff is friendly, personable and very knowlegeable. The prices are very reasonable, nothing I can find in NYC…I can’t complain. I bought one leather jacket, one A line jacket and a pair of driving gloves, my total was $116…such a good price! Def a spot to check out! Peep the pics after the jump…

Vintage Spots #17 - PDX: Bombshell Vintage

After eating brunch at Le Pigeon, B and I went across the street to check out Bombshell Vintage. It was the first shop I went to on my trip, I noticed that there are quite a few good vintage shops in PDX and its very popular to vintage shop too. I don’t see a lot of chain shops, I do enjoy getting away from those once in awhile, vintage shopping outside of NY is always good, the prices are lower and you’ll find treasure out here. Even though I just a pair of over the elbow gloves, I was content too bad I couldn’t find any black leather ones. This shop here has a lot of nice summer dresses, not too much of my style but the store is full of great clothes in great condition and the price tag is good too. The staff is friendly and helpful too, everything is neatly organized so no digging required. Bargain hunters should def check this spot out for one of a kind finds, peep the pics after the jump…

If you are looking for an exceptional variety of “one of” vintage pieces starting with 1920’s beaded flapper styles to pretty frocks and prom dresses from the truman era, The Family Jewels Vintage Clothing is where you want to go. This store is decked out with the floral ceramic vases atop lace doylies that are reminicent of my grand mothers home. With Frank Sinatra Playing out in the background the experience is that of opening her closet. The Family Jewels Vintage Clothing has a great variety of vintage catered to special occasions from a garden bbq, weddings or something of the red carpet nature. Available here are slips and swim suits to gorgeous suits, shifts and cocktail dresses and fine details like gloves, shoes, hats, ties, jewelry and hand bags for women, men and children. And if you are not in the market for anything to wear, they have a great variety of furniture, dishes and things, home decor and records. Don’t forget to check out their sale section for great pieces that just need a little fixing, every great piece deserves a good home.
